I have been teaching baby yoga for a long time and one of my challenges at the beginning was confidence in what to teach.
Yoga seemed like a big practice and I had only just started my journey. I was in my head a lot thinking I needed to create the perfect class. I also was overwhelmed by the number of different movements and wasn’t sure how to structure a class. The training I took gave lots of information but not so much on how to create a flow.
I bought alot of baby yoga books, videos and I got more and more confused. I kinda undermined myself too. Not trusting my gut and trying to follow other ideas. There was alot of procrastination going on which lead to avoidance and resistance.
How did I make it so complicated for myself! Eventually I started to teach and I realised, “I can do this!” I created my own structure and flow and made the class authentic and unique to me. In my own truth as a teacher I found my way.
Biggest learning point was, you don’t need to know it all now. Teach what you can from the place you are at. The relief and permission this gave me to be curious was amazing.
The simple plan
When I started training people to teach baby yoga I was determined to make it simple and easy. I created this plan below which you are welcome to use.
I described the class like a sandwich. The top slice was always the same. The bottom slice was always the same. The filling was different each time! This made it so easy. Parents and babies enjoy repetition and something new arises each time so I went with the flow and focused on holding space and connection over perfect classes.
I also believe less is more. Breath, movement, touch and connection. It’s all we need as humans. Yes, its fun to add extras like crafting and play but you don’t need to. You are enough and so are babies.
