In this week’s blog post, I wanted to write about having the courage to follow your dreams and start a business that supports families.
Having worked in the birth and baby space for over 20 years, I see that the biggest block to people following their dreams and stepping into this absolutely vital space is fear.
Fear of doing something that they’ve never done before.
It takes a lot of courage to honour who you are and what it is you are here to do.
Unfortunately, the sphere of early childhood development has been traditionally seen as one where there is not a lot of income that can be created, and the impact that early childhood development creates in the world has even been questioned?!
That means that for some people, early childhood development and working in the early years is a second choice. And I so want to change that because Blossom and Berry is here to raise the value of the village.
I passionately believe in the immense amount of benefit and transformation that is created by birth and baby workers, early childhood development practitioners, and all of those working in the first 1001 days of life. Because what we are doing is literally nurturing the future one baby at a time.
What happens in the first 1001 days shapes our brains for life. People talk a lot about the period between 0-7 because that’s where a child’s brain is wiring through myelination – but actually, conception to 2 is the most important window. In fact, there is some research that has been released that suggests that it’s actually in the first eight weeks of life where most of the wiring for our potential is done.
That is why I believe the first 1001 days of life is the period to focus all of our energy and our resources upon because the beginning ends up at the end; the seeds that we’re putting in the ground are what is going to bear fruit for our society.
My dream and desire is to create pure seeds of love because babies are born with 100% love.
In order to do that, we need really strong visionary birth and baby practitioners and early childhood development leaders.
To do that, they need to be valued.
To do that, they need to be seen and heard and really celebrated.
And that’s what we do here at Blossom and Berry.
So when you are deciding to start up your own business teaching in the birth and baby space, you may think to yourself:
I’m not going to be able to make a difference here.
I’m not going to be able to create an impact.
I’m not going to be able to create income…it’s just working with children.
But It’s not just working with children. You are holding the future in your hands. You are probably one of the most important people in the world because you are shaping the future of our society.
Sometimes when we talk about wanting babies to reach their full potential, there’s this idea, that parents need to be 100% competent and perfect in what they are sharing with their babies. But that’s just not the case – because true transformation comes from meeting yourself exactly where you are. And some parents are going to find parenting easy and simple and enjoyable, and some parents are gonna find it the hardest thing that they ever did. Everybody is going to be the parent of the person that they are – it’s so important for parents to accept themselves 100%, because, guess what? We want parents to accept babies 100%. So 100% love for babies is 100% love for parents. And this is a really important message again, that we’re getting out through Blossom & Berry, a message amplified through our teachers.
It also means that for you as a potential or established teacher at Blossom & Berry, you get to be 100%. You, YOU are 100% love.
You don’t have to be perfect to start your baby massage teacher training business.
You don’t have to be perfect to scale it.
You just have to be more of you and not less.
You just need to love yourself exactly as you are and honour your desires.
So if your desire is to start up a birth business, if your desire is to set up a product range, if your desire is to set up a retreat, write an online program, hold an event, or have your own parent and baby wellness hub, those are all your desires that you can bring into reality when you remove the fear and remember who you are and why you are reading this right now.
And so that courage to step up and start to teach, it’s in you right now.
We need more leaders. We need more people with fire in their belly about the early years because we can really change the way things are; by treating each baby, each human as a precious seed of life, as a precious part of the whole, and bringing everything back into harmony, peace, and balance. And that’s how I see the work that we do here. Yes, of course, we create fun, but we also create beautiful, supportive spaces, we create community, and we create love. All of those things, they’re so important.
You don’t need to doubt yourself. Blossom & Berry is the best decision I ever made.
I’ve received freedom, I’ve received time with my family, and I have the most beautiful relationship with my children. I’ve had flexibility. I’ve had travel. I’ve been able to create a business that activates every single one of my creative desires. I’ve been able to set up charitable projects. I’ve been able to lead with love. I’ve been able to do everything that I desire. And I started exactly where you are right now, 20 years ago, thinking I don’t know if I can do it. I don’t know if it’s going to work out… but I knew it was the right decision because I felt it in my body.
